CBSE launches competitive writing series using social platforms

With the understanding that appropriate writing and communication skills play a crucial role in the overall development of the students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently launched  a competitive writing series for students using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

The social media sites will be used to popularize the entries and also to select winners through peer voting and popular choice. The students participating in the competition will be able to submit entries through smart phones as well.

Director (academics, training, research and innovation) Sadhana Parashar said, “It is not merely a competitive activity. It will encourage students to learn from sources like blogs or wikis. Social media like Facebook and Twitter will be extensively used to popularize submitted entries and also for selection of winning entries through peer voting.” The online participants can directly key-in their response through the link on. The writing series will be conducted between 5th and 11th August, 2014 and the board would announce a new topic daily on freedom fighter and designer of Tri-colour Pingali Venkayya. A participant will be able to submit the entry in either English or Hindi or Telugu. The winners of the contests will be announced on 12th August, 2014 and felicitated on 14th August, 2014 at New Delhi. The winners will get a cash prize of Rs 20,000 along with a trip to New Delhi.
